Simple Pleasures

As I haven't been feeling in the best headspace lately, I've been trying to remind myself that things are rarely all bad, and no matter how awful your life seems to be going at the moment - there's usually something in the day to make you smile.
Here are my favourite little simple pleasures at the moment:

1. Taking off my bra at the end of the day
I don't care what anyone says, there are few better feelings than this. Once my bras off, as far as I'm concerned plans have to be unmade because this is comfort at its best.

2. Crawling into a warm bed
Now I'm mindful that I'm a total granny, but I really don't think I could live without my electric blanket. I love being toasty, and I relish the feeling of getting into a cosy bed after a long day and feeling your feet start to slowly warm up (anyone else unable to get comfy if their feet are freezing?)

3. Clean Sheets
This goes hand in hand with the above: crisp fresh sheets are a thing of dreams, I could literally stay in bed all day, especially in the winter months.

4. Bubble Baths
I adore soaking in the bath but I'm definitely a fairweather bather, I can't have them in the summer months at all. I'm slowly but surely working through my Lush stash at the moment and lying in the bath with a sheet mask on catching up with Homeland is definitely one of my favourite current pastimes.

5. Curling up with a good book
I've always enjoyed reading, having been an avid reader as a child, but I've found it much harder to find the time as I've got older. On these cold evenings I love snuggling up under a blanket with a good book and either a cup of tea or glass of wine. It relaxes me and makes me feel so much sleepier than hours of binge watching Netflix. I can get lost for hours.

6. Nature
Living where I do, I'm very lucky to be able to find all sorts of beautiful places right on my doorstep. I love catching the gorgeous sunrises we've been treated to lately, and looking forward to all the sunsets we'll have once the evenings get longer! Being on the beach, walking through forests and hiking up mountains are all simple and free ways to feel happy and at peace.

What are your favourite simple pleasures?

February In Photos

Wow, it seems like this month has gone in the blink of an eye!
So much for my plan of blogging more regularly...but life has been busy and sadly this blog has fallen by the wayside a little.
February may have been over before we knew it, but here's what I've been up to:

At the start of the month I went for an overnight stay at The Quay Hotel & Spa which is a place I've mentioned a few times and one of my favourite places to go. As well as a delicious 3 course meal and a well-needed hot stones massage, waking up to this gorgeous view was a treat too.

This month my bestie and I have been cramming in as many coffee and chat Sundays as we possibly can. Probably our favourite discovery of the month was Harri's Portuguese Kitchen which is an amazing little eatery serving amazing coffees, Portuguese Pasteis de Nata and the best lemon buns I've ever tasted in my life.

Sunrise, Sunset. Weather wise it's been a mixed bag here in North Wales (I'm looking at you, Doris) but we've been treated to some absolutely beaut skies. I've just had to pull over on my way to work to take some photos of the fresh morning skies.

I've had a couple of lovely relaxed weekend trips out and about locally, including a stroll down the pier in Beaumaris where the views were so tranquil and calm. I've blogged about it in more detail here
We also went along to a local gallery to see a friend-of-a-friend's exhibition called 'Reading Between The Lines' which is all about the significance of washing lines in films. It' definitely an interesting concept, and one I've really never considered, but I really liked it.

Another new place to explore, we popped along to Tom's Hamburger House after work to sample their gourmet burgers. I'm not usually the biggest burger fan but I adore finding new places to try and this definitely didn't disappoint. I went for the safe option of the 'Cheesy Tom' but next time I'll be more adventurous!

We decided to throw a mini hen for my bestie ahead of the official big one in a couple of months, so surprised her with a meal at The Sea Shanty which is beautiful decorated quirky cafe filled with unique nautical goodies, and an extensive menu of locally sourced food. After our meal we headed for a (bracing!) walk along the beachfront to the Black Seal for cocktails. Such a good night!

Finally, the universally divided day - Valentines. As a singleton this year I really wasn't in the mood for celebrating, so instead we had Galentines with a meal deal from Waitrose. The food was actually pretty perfect, and the cute chocolate heart-shaped pudding was to die for.

How have you spent your February?

To The Girl Who's Never The One

Lately, I haven't really felt like blogging.
I haven't really felt like a lot of things, if I'm honest.
I haven't felt like getting out of bed some days, I haven't felt like me, and I certainly haven't felt like dating.
And now I keep thinking: what if I'm never ready?

For me it seems more and more that I'm destined to never be the one.
I always love too much and get torn apart. I give my all and it's never enough.
There's always someone better, younger, prettier.
And it never gets easier.

And now as I sit and nurse my permanently broken heart, the heart that every so often sheds a few broken layers only to reveal even deeper, more broken ones beneath the surface I wonder:
what if this isn't the plan for me?

Maybe some of us are destined to be on our own, and the cards we're dealt don't necessarily mean the stereotypically happy fairytale ending. What if we're supposed to find our happiness in other sources?
What if the ones we love never really love us back and a life of solitude is what's been pre-destined?

Though it wouldn't be all bad - a life of solitude - building brick walls around my heart to stop it constantly shattering isn't really what I'd hoped for. I feel like I still have an awful lot of love running through my veins that is currently going to waste.
But it seems like, for the moment in time at least, I'm destined to be a lone wolf.
And maybe that's what I need, because God knows right now I can't take any more heartache. I've had too many tears, too many nights lying awake torturing myself, too much misery to be able to take on much more.

Like the lines in my favourite ever poem:
'You loved a man with more hands than a parade of beggars, and here you stand.
Heart like a four poster bed. Heart like a canvas.
Heart leaking something so strong they can smell it in the street'

Maybe this is the time I focus on self-love and see where it takes me. Maybe a further period of melancholy solitude is what I need.
Finding who I am before trying to find another.
More baths, more tea, more reading, more aiming for that place I can call my very own home.
Less settling for people who don't see my worth.

Feeling Snuggly In Fat Face

Now I'll be honest: this photoshoot was never really meant to be a photoshoot.
I rarely do outfit posts, but on this day a walk and a coffee ended up in an impromptu photoshoot, and I actually liked the way the photos came out, which is rare for me.
Usually I'm my own biggest critic but on this occasion they captured the relaxed mood of the day.
Also, its no secret at all that I'm a HUGE fan of Fat Face, they are definitely my favourite clothing company.
So on this day, though entirely coincidental, it was also not at all surprising that every item (bar my boots) is made by Fat Face. Which is partly where the tongue in cheek photoshoot idea came from.
Fat Face are second to none in the snuggly winter category; everything is thick, made to last, warm and above all comfortable. I'd had their gilet on my wishlist for months, and I haven't been disappointed with it at all. Teamed with a jumper from a few years ago, their flattering skinny jeans, and the new scarf and gloves I got for Christmas, it made the perfect combination for a walk and talk along the pier.
The weather was beautiful that day, with tranquil water mingling with the milky sky so you almost couldn't see where one ended and the other began.
Plus the little colourful matchbox houses dotted along the horizon always make me smile.

Lush Valentines Haul

As with every other man and his dog, I go a little cray cray every time a new Lush collection comes out; though I love their products all year round, I'm a sucker for the seasonal collections.
As V-Day rolls ever nearer, I thought it was high time I treated myself to a few bits from the Valentines range - after all, no one else is going to if you can't treat yourself on the day of love, when can you?
This smells gorgeous and at only £2.95 is the bargain of the range. With notes of bergamot and rose it's designed to turn your bathwater pink, perfect!
To be honest, this one had me at 'chocolate orange'...if that's not my favourite two word combination I don't know what is! Add cocoa butter to the mix and you're in business, this is amazing.
My all time favourite, I just can't get enough. If I could legitimately spend all my wages on these I would...instead I bought two, but I'm determined to make the most of them.
I think this bath bomb looks so pretty, and it smells good enough to eat too. I'm a huge fan of Rose Jam and bought this on the strength that it's very similar; I can't wait to use it and see.
This was my wildcard purchase, and having read reviews I think I made the right decision. I'm intrigued to try this melt, and the colours look beautiful. Plus I could do with silky smooth skin!

Have you bought anything from the Valentine's Day range?
